Role Overview

The Mechanical Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery, management, and performance of mechanical works across projects and operational activities. The role ensures mechanical installations and services are delivered safely, in compliance with regulations, within budget, and to required quality and programme standards.

The Mechanical Manager will provide leadership to mechanical teams, support project delivery, and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage mechanical works across multiple projects and operational activities,
  • Lead and support mechanical project teams, supervisors, and engineers,
  • Ensure compliance with mechanical regulations, standards, and company procedures,
  • Review and approve mechanical designs drawings, and technical documentation,
  • Support project planning, programming, and resource allocation,
  • Monitor project progress, costs, and performance against programme and budget,
  • Support procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers,
  • Ensure quality assurance processes and inspections are implemented,
  • Support installation, testing, commissioning, and project handover processes,
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to project teams,
  • Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships,
  • Support continuous improvement and innovation across mechanical operations.

Skills & Competencies

Essential

  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems and installations,
  • Strong leadership and team management skills,
  • Good commercial awareness and cost management experience,
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills,
  • Excellent organisational and planning ability,
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Desirable

  • Experience managing multi-site or large-scale mechanical projects,
  • Experience working within construction, infrastructure, utilities, or industrial sectors,
  • Experience working with principal contractors or Tier 1 contractors

Qualifications

Essential

  • HNC / HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience),
  • Relevant mechanical industry qualifications

Desirable

  • SMSTS or equivalent site management qualification,
  • Professional membership (e.g., IMechE or equivalent),
  • Project management qualification (e.g., APM, PRINCE2).
