Role Overview

As a Data Cabling Installation Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, testing, and commissioning of structured cabling systems across a variety of project environments.

You will work both independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality network infrastructure installations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, company procedures, and health & safety regulations.

This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects across multiple sectors, supporting the infrastructure that enables modern digital connectivity.

The Data Cabling Installation Engineer is responsible for working in accordance with company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and supporting a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fibre optic cabling,
  • Install cable containment systems including tray, basket, trunking and conduit,
  • Carry out cable routing, pulling, and dressing in accordance with installation standards,
  • Terminate data outlets, patch panels, and cabinets,
  • Conduct testing and certification of cabling installations using industry-approved testing equipment,
  • Label, document, and maintain records of installed systems,
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and project specifications,
  • Identify and resolve installation issues or faults during project delivery,
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company Health & Safety policies and procedures,
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and site teams to deliver projects on time and to specification,
  • Represent the company professionally when working on client sites

Skills & Competencies

Essential

  • Strong technical knowledge of structured cabling systems and installation practices,
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and installation plans,
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality of workmanship,
  • Good communication and teamwork skills,
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively,
  • Strong problem-solving skills,
  • Professional and reliable work ethic,
  • Commitment to maintaining high health and safety standards

Experience

  • Experience installing structured cabling systems in commercial or industrial environments,
  • Experience with copper and fibre optic installations,
  • Familiarity with cable testing and certification tools,
  • Experience working on construction or technical projects sites

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant experience in structured cabling installation,
  • Knowledge of industry standards and installation practices,
  • CSCS card (or equivalent site certification)

Desirable

  • Structured Cabling Installation & Testing certification,
  • Fibre optic installation and termination training,
  • Full UK Driving Licence,
  • Health & Safety training (e.g., SSSTS, ECS, or equivalent)

Training & Development

  • Opportunities to gain advanced structured cabling and fibre optic certifications,
  • Continuous professional development within network infrastructure and engineering roles,
  • Opportunities to progress into senior engineer, supervisory, or project management roles,

Working Environment
