Electrical

Works involved the initial survey, strip out, modification and full refurbishment of electrical services across the main primary school building and the initial installation of electrical services for the new nursery extension. JGM installed new submains and switchgear as well as new containment throughout the site. We also installed small power throughout the entire school building and into the new extension complex. Data solutions were installed throughout which allowed for networking solutions as well as LED smart lighting to be installed in the building. Security wise JGM installed fire alarm systems, as well as intruder systems and access control to ensure the building was secure for the client.

The extension was successfully handed over at the end of the school’s summer holiday period ready for the children to start the new term in the new facility. Due to our success in this project JGM have been awarded the opportunity to return to the building in the summer of 2021 to carry out more electrical refurbishments and re-wiring works in the school’s main reception area.

Due to the nature of working in a live school environment JGM took many precautions. Careful programming and close co-operation with the school was key to this project’s success. All main infrastructure works were carried out over the holiday periods, with two classroom refurbs being worked on at the same time during the traditional term time ensuring that the school could still function around the works taking place and to not cause too much disruption.

The results

Weekly progress meetings were held with the delivery and design team, risk assessment and method statements issued for review and approval well in advance of works starting with all working practices continuously updated and managed effectively throughout the works. Where critical tasks were being undertaken these items were communicated daily to the client.

Our JGM project managers also held daily briefings and toolbox talks as required with operatives and sub-contractors to ensure that all information was communicated to the individuals undertaking the tasks. Additional protection measures were put in place through the use of signage to alert operatives, contractors, and all site visitors to our works.
